About CFI

CrossFit Intrigue is a licensed affiliate of CrossFit and is a community of men and women of all ages and abilities.

A bedrock principle of CrossFit is that all of the workouts and movements we do can be modified to suit anyone willing to put forth the effort, regardless of age, ability, or physical condition.

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program. It delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. It is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of the ten recognized fitness domains, which are, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.

At CrossFit Intrigue we work exclusively with compound movements and shorter, high-intensity cardiovascular sessions.

Classes are 1 hour in length and involve a warm-up, skill, strength,  and WOD (workout of the day).

Feel free to stop by and check it out anytime or join us on the 1st or 3rd Saturdays each month from 8:30am-10am for a free session. Bring a friend!

It’s never too late to get healthy, get in shape, and change your life!

•Jake Baker- Co-Owner of CFI (CrossFit Level I Certified, USAW Level 1 Sports and Performance Olympic Lifting Certified )
Jake and Mandy are married, have two wonderful children and have been residing in Wetumpka for the last 9 years. He is the reason that CrossFit Intrigue exists! Thanks to his dream and vision, this box has become a place where its’ members are becoming healthier, stronger, faster and passionate about CrossFit.  At the end of his high school baseball career, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2002. He instead accepted a baseball scholarship to the University of Georgia. After playing collegiate baseball and then through the professional level, he took on strength training as his new hobby.  After strength training for many years, he was introduced to CrossFit in 2010 and has adopted it as a lifestyle, fully believing in everything CrossFit stands for.  Furthering his knowledge, Jake passed the Level I Certification Course in early 2011. He also holds a USAW Level 1 Sports and Performance Olympic Lifting certification. He is employed full time with the Wetumpka Fire Department as a firefighter.

•Mandy Baker- Co-owner of CFI (CrossFit Level I Certified)

Mandy obtained a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Troy University in 2007 and has been working since then as an Emergency Room nurse . She and her husband Jake have two children: daughter, Presley and  son, Easton. She did CrossFit throughout both of her pregnancies and obtained knowledge about ‘CrossFit during pregnancy’ through research and participation. Mandy has always been into fitness and exercise. She was a competitive gymnast for 4 years and coached gymnastics for a little over a year. She also was a competitive cheerleader for 4 years where she excelled in tumbling/gymnastics , stunting and dance. She received many top awards in both gymnastics and competitive cheerleading. Mandy was introduced to CrossFit in 2010 and fell in love with the constant variety and challenge it demands. The high intensity workouts, Olympic weightlifting, and the incredible results are reasons she continues to be a part of this sport.

“My husband and I both have such a passion for helping others and helping people create healthy active lifestyles. We decided to open our own box in September of 2012 in Wetumpka, AL where we knew there was nothing like it in the area. We have so many amazing members and coaches that make CrossFit Intrigue what it is and we thank God for all of our success so far. We have been blessed with the ability to coach, motivate, and provide knowledge to our members so they can achieve and exceed their goals!”

Know you are READY TO START?

There is an athlete in everybody and CrossFit will help with achieving goals you never thought possible.  In our Fundamentals class, we will be teaching you how to build a strong fitness foundation which will prepare you both mentally and physically for a lifetime of health and fitness. You will begin your time at CFI with a 2-3 week class.  This is where you will work with a coach to build your general fitness base and gain familiarity with our movements.  Following your initial 2-3 weeks, you may then move on to our CrossFit group classes.

The emphasis of Fundamentals is on skill development and exposure to our basic movements. We are going to be hammering technique to ensure your safety, and success at the next level.  We will introduce you to technique and mechanics first, then intensity (FORM—CONSISTENCY—INTENSITY).  We will be showing you movements that begin with the relatively non-technical and progressively move toward the more technical.

Once the basics are introduced, your fundamentals class will continually progress to expose you to our basic hierarchy of movements.  Technique will be drilled, and as form becomes more consistent we will progressively introduce you to the intensity levels you will see in our CrossFit classes.

The difficulty and success of CrossFit is ultimately in your hands. The degree that you push yourself will determine how much you achieve.  Shifts in body composition are one of the most motivating ways to measure success. We highly encourage you to take “Before” pictures at the beginning of Fundamentals.

*There are exceptions to the 2-3 week class. There are times when members from other CrossFit Affiliates move and have to change Gyms. Our Coaches will be the ultimate factor in determining if the athlete has the knowledge and ability to advance out of Fundamentals Classes early.

The definition of CrossFit is “Constantly varied, functional movements, at relative high-intensity.” To dissect this we can split it up:

CONSTANTLY VARIED — Always changing the workouts, never letting your body adapt. This is why CrossFit is great for getting results. Your body never gets used to anything so you never reach those plateaus.

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENTS — Are movements humans were built for. Movements that are natural and safe. Movements we use in everyday life such as squating, deadlifting, pulling yourself up, etc. This is NOT standing on a Bosu ball on one leg doing bicep curls. These are movements that promote neurological and hormonal responses, leading to better health, actual strength, actual core stability, agility, and flexibility.

Relative HIGH INTENSITY — This is where many misconceptions about CrossFit come from. Many people think intensity is screaming and yelling and looking like you are going to pop a vain in your neck. This is not intensity although it may sometimes be the result of intensity.  In basic language we are saying power/intensity is how much weight you can move over the longest distance in the shortest amount of time, while of course maintaining proper form and technique.

CrossFit can be scaled to any body, any age, and any level of fitness. It’s fun, its safe, and best of all it gets results. Call or come to experience it first hand for free with our free class!
